Swaziland

There are some things which i love about Africa. The main thing is that you should just expect the unexpected. I will give examples:
1. In Durban a man tried to sell me earings, i fobbed him off with a comment about not having pierced ears. He said 'no problem' and i thought he was going to pull out clip on earings, but no, he had an ear piercing gun in his pocket. I am sure it was clean and hygenic but i turned him down.
2. Watching hippos and crocodiles in a non-fenced off dam for a good 30 minutes. They are about 20 meters away so no worries. It wasnt until dave leant forward to sneeze that he saw the 6m croc only a meter in front of us. Needless to say we backed up a few paces....
3. It is perfectly acceptable to carry an AK-47. In fact it appears normal in most African countries. But i will never ever get used to the strap being a piece of string or twine or just a rag. NEVER...
4. Sleeping in the police station in Swaziland because we missed the last taxi buses and the police were concerned for our safety. A little after we got there a man walked in in his undies...he had been where we had been just prior and was robbed of everything he had including his clothes. But dont worry the policeman said that he was lucky, if he had resisted they would have cut his buttox with a knife, and if he had resisted further they just would have stabbed him in the stomach.
5. A half litre of beer here costs less than AUS$1, but a few slices of cheese or a chocolate bar are about $4.

OH and stupid South Africa hit us with a 1000 Rand fine! Ass-holes. If they tell you the right thing in the first place it wouldnt be a problem, telling us later is USELESS!!

That is about all i can think of at the moment. This heat is affecting my mind.... gotta love good weather. Tomorrow we are heading north so will unlikely write again until we are in Malawi.
