What happened to October???

So i am pretty shite at this blog business! Will sumarise the last 6 weeks...
George and i volunteered in an orphanage for a few days in Rwanda, i think G is going to make a great teacher one day!!
Hit the music/arts scene in Kampala and had a wicked time!
Fell out of the boat while white water rafting the nile
Swam faster than Ian Thorpe when i was informed that there was a crocodile not far from where i was leisurly floating!!! No worries, i made sure that George was always between me and the croc...love ya G!!
Sat on an overnight bus to Kenya where a brawl broke out, some guy attacked the driver. It would be funny if he wasnt going 100km/hr!!
Dave and i caused a scene on a dulladulla in Nairobi when the conducter overcharged us and the locals stopped the vehicle and citizen arrested the the conducter. Hilarious!!
Was proposed to at least every day.
Was called fat at least every day....but in a nice way somehow???
Got the flu in the tropical climate of Mombasa!
Took on the postal service in Nairobi
Got arrested and then released in Nairobi, and more importantly survived Nairobi with all my valuables!!! Impressive!
Then it took 5 days to get here to Addis which was difficult but safer than the UK, US, and Oz governments let on.
and today i attended the wedding of two ethiopian athletes and managed to stop 1 dickhead from pickpocketing me. Good times all round!!

All my love,
Jenny

DRC....EVENTUALLY!!!

overcast

So DAve and i made a quick trip to and around Goma to the Ngorogoro crater. The only lava lake like it in the world. AMAZING!!!
I think the only way to see what i saw is to go to the link below: if it doesnt work it is done by france 24 tv. put in that and Ngorogoro. You will see my friend Kennnedy talking on it.

We were bloody lucky as the rebels have now taken the surrounding area and the borders have been closed. (this morning!)

Rwanda

all seasons in one day

So we reluctantly left Zoe and all the comforts that she provided (very very reluctantly), and i must say a huge big fat THANKYOU to all those who took care of us and helped us in Karatu and to Ben and Katherine for their hospitality in Arusha.
We left completely refreshed, then within 48 hours Africa had once again sapped the strength we had with 2 days and 1 night of non stop travelling! But then we were in Rwanda and that, my friends, makes any crap african travel worthwhile.
SO Rwanda rwanda rwanda...what can i say...safe, nice, happy, hopeful, strong. I cannot do anything but praise RWanda and the Rwandan people. We have covered a lot of the country and have met so many salt of the earth people. The Jenny and DAve show has been joined by George, who will be a regular feature for the upcoming months. The genocide museum is amazing, but followed by the memorial at Gikongoro will leave you speachless and in tears, bodies just as they were left covered in lime, room after room of preserved bodies slashed with machetes, hammers, etc.
We treked gorillas and had the most amazing time, going through the jungleswhere even the gorilla trackers had never been because the gorillas we were traking were being challenged by another silverback who it turned out was following us to the gorillas. George was very brave until she saw the silverback right behind her and then she pushed an old lady out of the way to escape the approaching silverback. I would have helped but was laughing too hard (and saving my own skin!)
And now George and i are volunteering at an orphanage here in Northern rwanda. So amazing. Kids survive in such adverse conditions and the widows of rwanda are absolutely positively superb. One lady here has 19 children, no govt support, and only this one tour guide providing for them all. I am glad that George and i have been able to help in our own small way.
Unfortunately tomorrow we must leave RWanda but i have no doubt in my mind that i will be back again and if anyone is ever thinking of coming to africa then Rwanda is a total MUST!!

On the road again, i just can't wait...

sunny

Well the time has come for Dave and I to pick up our packs and start moving again. Rwanda here we come!

I have been at Zoe's here in Karatu, Tanzania for two whole weeks!!! I cannot believe it! I am feeling 100%, batteries are completely recharged, and I am back in travel mode again. Dave of course wasnt so lazy and went off and climbed Mt Kilimanjaro. He said it was the hardest climb/walk he has ever done. I was happy with my choice to delay it for a year or two!

Meanwhile i have been living the expat life here in Karatu and loving every moment of it!! Life has been tough.

Dave, Zoe and I celebrated our 10 month on the road anniversary yesterday. I went to work at the art gallery for the morning today and needed a nap after 2 hours. How am i ever going to work again????

Oh and by the way the Dave and Jenny show is going to be joined by a special guest next week..... stay tuned to find out more!

Refreshed in Tanzania

sunny 30 °C

So obviously my last entry was pretty bloody miserable.

Dave and I had probably had our worst African experience yet, and the shit just kept piling on. It was all only little things that arent worth listing but boy do they add up!! And suddenly everything just felt like crap and that was my low moment. I probably shouldnt have written about it on a blog but their has gotta be some bad with all that good, and i didnt want people to think that travel in Africa is just all plain sailing.

Some days are shite, and Dave and I both tell each other that for every shit day there will be a good day. And we put it behind us. And this is what we have done again, only this time was a little harder. So to cheer ourselves up we packed a day bag each and headed out to Zanzibar! We slept in beds for the first time in months (in fact i wasted a whole day on Zanzibar by not getting out of bed except to fetch food!!). We ate some western food, and even managed to track down a cake shop. And we made sure that we had a cold beer to watch the sunset. Poor Dave has had to deal with the emotional roller coaster that is Jenny... i am sure he deserved the beer more than i did!!

I returned to Dar, determined to get in and get out as quickly as possible. However, i think that now that i have come at it refreshed, i am quite enjoying it! Dave and i dealt with some of the skeletons here, I have met some wonderful people and seen a whole new side of Dar. Tomorrow we bunk out and i must say, although i am not sad to go, i will be glad to come back again one day. I officially apologise Dar, you are a shit-hole but not the total shit-hole i made you out to be.

Please note, Mark and Chubbs, that this does not mean that i dont want you to blow up the oil lines or infiltrate the water supply, just do it in a nice way! Joking joking...

So Dae and i are off tomorrow morning on an early bus to go see Zoe. We look forward to seeing the young lady again and hopefully drinking a bottle of two of wine!
Northern Tanzania here i come!!
